You may also see promises from your credit card companies to cover flight cancellations and other potential challenges on a vacation. As you evaluate your options, you should always take a look at the fine print, and understand fully what different trip protection plans cover — and what they don’t.

To help simplify your comparison shopping, we’ve gathered details about what SafeTrip travel protection plans cover. Whether you’re headed on an overseas adventure or enjoying a coast-to-coast tour of the United States, SafeTrip offers a unique package of just-in-case coverage and 24/7 support.

In case of cancellation:

SafeTrip cancellation coverage reimburses you if you have to call off your trip due to illness or injury. Your non-refundable travel expenses are also covered if previously approved time off has been revoked, are in a traffic accident on the way to your departure point, and other specific events.

SafeTrip coverage:

100% trip cost covered up to $50,000


Compare to:

Travel credit cards that often have a lower maximum amount covered, plus your entire trip has to be booked on the same credit card.

In case of interruption or delay:

SafeTrip interruption and delay coverage reimburses you for the cost of covered missed activities in case a plane doesn’t depart on time or a train doesn’t show up. That means if you bought seats on an excursion, a cruise trip or a guided tour, you’ll get your costs covered. This coverage even takes care of your pet’s boarding costs if you are delayed getting home.

Up to 175% of trip costs for interruption; delay coverage is a one-time basis for up to $1,000 and an additional $120 for pet kennel fees

In case your bags are lost or stolen:

It’s one of the most inconvenient travel hassles, and one of the most common: Your bags are put on the wrong flight, get left behind, or disappear altogether. SafeTrip coverage ensures you are covered and compensates you for lost items including your on-the-go electronics and basic necessities.

SafeTrip coverage:

Lost, stolen, or damaged baggage and personal effects are insured up to $1,000. Need to buy items to get you through a delayed bag arrival? SafeTrip reimburses you for essential purchases if your baggage is delayed for more than 24 hours up to a $300 maximum.

Most credit cards*only cover the difference between the cash value of your missing luggage and what your airline covers.
